October TBR

As I sit here with my vanilla chai, I am thinking about reading.  I am currently reading Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros and I’m obsessed.  It’s almost all I can think about.

I see so many great creators on Instagram and TikTok talking about their TBRs and they have like eight books that they want to read this weekend.  Ok, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but they do usually have more books on their monthly TBR than I have been able to read this whole year.

I am by no means an expert, but I would like to talk about prioritizing the things you want to do and not only the things you have to do.  We all have a ton of stuff on our plate every day that sometimes it seems impossible to have enough time in the day to do the things you want to do, after all the things you had to do.  Sometimes there isn’t enough time, and others there isn’t enough energy.

How do we say enough is enough for the day and leave ourselves a sliver of time to read a book, watch a show, play a game, etc.?  The way I see it, you have to prioritize.  I use an app to keep my to do list current for the day and check off things as I go along.  I like having the visual reminder of the things I have gotten done today, it keeps me motivated.  You can either put your free time on the calendar and when it comes to that time, you make sure you take it, or, you can put only a few things that absolutely need to get done today on your list and once they are done, the rest of the day is free.  I know it’s easier said than done.  I am a fan of the latter.

I know that every week, I stress that taking time for you is so important.  It is, but I also realize that you all have real world lives, partners, pets, children, jobs, etc. that are constantly pulling you in a million directions.  One day per week, try to save a little time for yourself, if it’s 15 minutes to have uninterrupted coffee time, a bath, read for a little while, watch a show uninterrupted, you deserve to be kind to yourself too.  Living in a constant state of burn out is no way to live.

I urge you to test out giving yourself a little free time.  Whatever that may look like.  I think you will be pleasantly surprised at how good it feels.  Even just for 15 minutes, give yourself permission to do something that is only for you.

I personally don’t get to read every day, but when I do, it feels so energizing that I got to completely zone out for a little while and lose myself in the world inside the book.  I also read more than one book at a time.  I am currently reading, Fourth Wing, Heal the Witch Wound by Celeste Larsen, and I just received The Pumpkin Spice Café by Laurie Gilmore this afternoon.  I am hoping to get through all three by the end of the month, but even if I don’t, I will keep giving myself slivers of time to enjoy it when I can.

Have a great week!

Be You. Be Kind.
