Shifting Your Mindset to a New Perspective

We all have mundane tasks that must be completed throughout the day.  Just saying they can be done mindfully doesn’t help much if your mindset is still stuck in the agony of having to complete them.

Most people don’t like to clean or tidy and while each task can be completed with the mindfulness of focusing on each movement, being completely in the present moment, I realize that it can still be difficult to master if you are new to mindfulness.

I would like to help shift your mindset, if I may.

What if we think of cleaning as more of a conversation with your life, rather than a chore?

Instead of rushing to “get it done,” what if cleaning became a way of witnessing your life without judgement?

Not: “I have to clean this mess.”

But: “I’m caring for the space that cares for me.”

Try to reframe it like this:

Wiping the counter = closing a chapter of the day.

Folding laundry = tending to the version of you who needed comfort.

Vacuuming = clearing not just dust, but mental noise.

Dishes = evidence that you nourished yourself and your loved ones.

A grounding thought

You don’t need a perfect home to be mindful.  You just need a moment of intention inside an imperfect one.

Mindfulness is all about intention.  Imperfect mindfulness is still better than no mindfulness.  All these tasks can be used as a moving meditation to hopefully leave you more relaxed and content.  It just takes being completely in the present moment, observing your thoughts without judgement and focusing on the task at hand.

Let me know if there is another topic you would like to see how it can be done mindfully.
